The Frontinus Society

The Frontinus Society promotes science, research, and education in the history of water, energy, and pipeline technology from ancient times to the beginning of the modern era.

To this end, archaeologists, historians, engineers, architects, and other disciplines from almost 20 nations worldwide collaborate. It thus also addresses an interested public. Through this interdisciplinary and international collaboration, the Frontinus Society not only has a large network but also comprehensive expertise in the field of water, energy, and pipeline technology.

Students and young scientists

We are particularly committed to supporting students and young researchers who are interested in the topics of the Frontinus Society. We plan to offer scholarships and fellowships. We will also post information of particular interest to these groups on the “Students and Young Researchers” page. This page is currently under construction.

Student members, members under 25, and unemployed individuals (upon application) are eligible for a reduced membership fee.

Your benefits as a member

Perhaps the most important benefit for members is that they receive all specialist information and invitations to events, newsletters, and emails free of charge, keeping them always up to date.

Members of the Frontinus Society receive discounts on purchasing Frontinus publications and on participating in events both in Germany and abroad.

With approximately 300 members and through cooperation with other institutions and associations, the Frontinus Society has a dense network of experts. This is particularly beneficial for young researchers and students.

The extensive Frontinus Library is available to our members free of charge for their own research.
